Navy House is a newly renovated Victorian town house in the centre of Whitby, just behind the harbour and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway station. We have three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, an en suite cloakroom, drawing room, snug and huge kitchen diner. The house is on Cleveland Terrace, just a three minute walk to the harbour and the centre of town. The house benefits from a sunny south facing patio with garden furniture and BBQ and an artificial lawned area to the front, together with a back yard.
The house is built on a hill so you can enter from two levels. It is a typical Victorian Terrace so there are a lot of stairs to bear in mind if there are any mobility issues. There are three flights in the house and are typically Victorian and fairly steep. Whitby is built on hills, so it is characteristic of the town but the road from the harbour to Cleveland Terrace does get steep at a couple of points.
Entering the house from Cleveland Terrace you will find a large Victorian drawing room with Smart TV, DVD player and a wood burning stove. The drawing room is painted in Farrow & Ball Stiffkey blue paint with a traditional maritime feel with antique furniture and coastal finds and artwork.
There is another reception room on this floor that we call the snug which also has a new wood burning stove TV and DVD player. Having two living rooms is ideal if you are two families, or one for the children and one for the adults.
On the first floor is a newly refurbished bathroom with an over the bath power shower, WC and wash basin.
The stairs will take you downstairs into the huge basement kitchen /diner which again has just been completely renovated to include a 5 burner gas hob, two Bosch single ovens, dishwasher fridge and freezer and a microwave oven. There is a dining table to seat 8 people and a third wood burning stove. There is also a table with bench seating, giving you an alternative table meaning there can be dining seating for 14 – 16 people if required.
Everything in the kitchen is brand new, plenty of glassware, cutlery, porcelain dinner ware etc. There is a kettle, 4 slice toaster, sandwich maker, Dualit hand mixer, slow cooker and brand new Tefal cookware.
The kitchen / diner leads out to a utility room with washing machine and a second larder fridge, and then into the back yard where there is another patio table and chairs where you get the sunshine first thing in the morning. This back yard area is ideal for storing bikes, beach equipment etc and can be used to drop off shopping at the back door. There is an outside tap there for washing off sandy dirty wellies/boots.
There are three wood burners in the house, which you are most welcome to use. we do not provide and logs or kindling so you need to bring these yourselves. If you are not used to using a log burner, please see the instruction manual so you don’t set off the fire alarms!
There is a security keypad on the door meaning it is safe to leave items in the back yard. You enter this back yard from the rear of Esk Terrace.
From the first floor you go upstairs and there are two kingsize bedrooms with antique furniture and Victorian cast iron fireplaces with brand new hotel contract grade comfortable mattresses and white Egyptian cotton bed linen. There is the main house bathroom on this floor, again with over bath power shower, WC and basin.
There is a small staircase leading to the converted attic space which has four full size single beds and an ensuite with a WC and wash basin. Again we have bought contract grade mattresses and have Egyptian cotton bed linen.
Outside to the front of the property is an artificial grassed area and sunken patio with wooden garden seating, umbrella, gas BBQ and plenty of fairy lights. This is South facing and is a real sun trap.
